CASEA GmbH is preparing for FSSC 22000 certification - with support from Praxistrainings-LMS
Food safety for a special product: Calcium sulfate in food and feed quality
Gypsum is primarily known to many people as a high-quality building material. But calcium sulfate can do much more: In a sufficiently pure and quality-tested form, it is also used in the animal feed and food industries – for example, as calcium sulfate E 516.
CASEA GmbH operates precisely within this unique field of tension. The company has many years of experience in the extraction and processing of gypsum products and is constantly developing its systems to meet the requirements of the feed and food industries.
Together with Praxistrainings-LMS, CASEA is preparing for FSSC 22000 certification. The aim is to further strengthen customer confidence in the products and to establish a sustainable, practical, and auditable food safety management system.

About the company
CASEA is a company with many years of experience in the extraction and processing of gypsum products. In addition to applications in the building materials industry, CASEA develops products and systems for the specific requirements of the food and feed industries.
This process involves the use of food-grade and feed-grade calcium sulfate, among other materials. Product safety, raw material quality, hygiene, and traceable documentation are of paramount importance for these products.
CASEA has been working with Praxistrainings-LMS since February 2024 on preparations for the planned FSSC 22000 certification.
The initial situation
CASEA is originally deeply rooted in the building materials industry. However, products intended for use in animal feed and food are subject to special requirements regarding product safety, hygiene, risk assessment, documentation, and verification.
This led to key questions:
- How can a food safety management system be meaningfully integrated into existing structures?
- What requirements does FSSC 22000 place on a manufacturer of mineral raw materials?
- How can HACCP, food safety culture, and documented processes be effectively implemented at the site?
- How can the transfer from an industrially oriented production environment to an auditable food safety system be achieved?
What makes this particularly challenging is that it is not an everyday food product, but a mineral raw material with a very specific application. This makes a clear, transparent, and risk-based approach all the more important.
The solution
Praxistrainings-LMS has been supporting CASEA on its path to the planned FSSC 22000 certification since February 2024.
The collaboration combined various components: training, expert support, on-site visits, status quo assessments, and an internal audit to prepare for certification. The measures implemented included, among other things:
- Training on HACCP and its practical implementation at the site
- Training courses on the FSSC 22000 standard and the relevant requirements
- Training on food safety culture and its integration into the company
- Support for the targeted use of generative AI for QM-relevant documents
- On-site inspections to assess the status quo
- Derivation of key projects and areas of action for certification
- Internal audit in summer 2026 to prepare for the planned certification
Especially in the initial phase, the focus was on identifying which requirements were already being met and where structures, documentation, or processes needed further development. Later, the emphasis increasingly shifted to concrete audit preparation.
The result
Through continuous collaboration, CASEA was able to systematically develop the topic of food safety and integrate it step by step into existing processes.
Key findings include:
- Greater security in dealing with the requirements of FSSC 22000
- Enhanced understanding of HACCP, hazard analysis and risk-based work
- Awareness of food safety culture at the site
- Improved structure for QM and food safety-related documents
- Clear areas of action for certification preparation
- Practical assessment of the implementation status through site visits and internal audits
The particular added value lies in the fact that food safety is not considered in isolation, but is developed in a way that is appropriate to the product, the location and the existing industrial experience.
Cooperation
The collaboration with CASEA is particularly exciting from a professional standpoint because it demonstrates the multifaceted nature of food safety. Calcium sulfate is not a typical food product – and precisely for this reason, a thorough understanding of raw material quality, legal requirements, product safety, customer expectations, and auditable management systems is essential.
We experience CASEA as a committed company with a strong team, a special product and the clear goal of sustainably anchoring food safety within the company.
Conclusion
The project demonstrates that FSSC 22000 is not only relevant for traditional food manufacturers. Producers of specialized raw materials used in the feed and food industries also benefit from a structured food safety management system.
CASEA is pursuing this path consistently and with a practical focus. The planned certification at the end of 2026 is an important next step to further strengthen customer trust and to permanently secure the special requirements for food and feed products.
We wish the entire team the best of luck with the certification and of course remain available for technical questions, training and practical support.
